Cabin lighting fuse - Cars & Trucks

The cabin lighting fuse in cars and trucks controls the power supply to the interior lights, including dome lights, map lights, and sometimes dashboard illumination. If your interior lights are not working, a blown fuse could be the cause.

How to Find and Replace the Cabin Lighting Fuse

  1. Locate the Fuse Box

    • Most vehicles have fuse boxes under the dashboard (driver’s side) or in the engine compartment. Some models also have a secondary fuse box near the glove compartment.
  2. Check the Owner’s Manual

    • Look for the fuse diagram in your car’s manual to identify the fuse responsible for interior lighting.
  3. Inspect the Fuse

    • Pull out the fuse (usually rated between 5A to 15A) using a fuse puller or pliers.
    • If the metal strip inside is broken, the fuse is blown.
  4. Replace with the Same Rating

    • Insert a new fuse with the same amperage rating.
    • Avoid using a higher-rated fuse, as it can cause electrical damage.
  5. Test the Lights

    • Turn on the interior lights to see if they work.
    • If the fuse blows again immediately, there may be an underlying electrical issue.

Common Causes of a Blown Cabin Light Fuse

  • Short circuits or exposed wires
  • Using the wrong bulb wattage
  • Faulty light switches
  • Water or moisture intrusion in the fuse box
