The switch is located right on top of your transmission and is connected to your shifter. This is a common problem. I doubt that your entire transmission is failing, because that is rare with the S70 line. Has your check engine light come on? The check engine light can be triggered by the failing PNP switch. You should take the car to a autozone if you do not have a code reader to see if this problem is sending a code to the computer. I have a 96 pontiac grand am. The dashboard "Theft Light" comes on, the car cranks, but then immediately dies. I talked to a mechanic who said it was probably a bad key or lock and if he had to replace the lock, it would be $300 to $500. Does that sound reasonable and does that sound like the problem? SOLUTION: The problem is most commonly due to a failure in the ignition lock cylinder which houses the passlock security sensor. Replacement cost for the ignition lock cylinder is around $300 at most shops, slightly more at others. Replacing the ignition lock cylinder should fix the problem.
