Pontiac Grand Am SE: I have a 96 pontiac grand am. The dashboard


I have a 96 pontiac grand am. The dashboard "Theft Light" comes on, the car cranks, but then immediately dies. I talked to a mechanic who said it was probably a bad key or lock and if he had to replace the lock, it would be $300 to $500. Does that sound reasonable and does that sound like the problem?

Holding the key in tightly, using 2 other keys.

SOLUTION:
The problem is most commonly due to a failure in the ignition lock cylinder which houses the passlock security sensor. Replacement cost for the ignition lock cylinder is around $300 at most shops, slightly more at others. Replacing the ignition lock cylinder should fix the problem.

CRV hood release cable is broken, How do you reconnect the top of the hood release cable when the hood wont open You can see the cable if you pull on the hood as far as it will go 2002 CRV hood release cable is broken, or disconnected at the latch end How can I open the hood If it's loose it either broke at the cable or the end piece. You have to get to the back of the latch and move the release arm. I usually try and get under the vehicle and remove the plastic splash shield from the bottom and get a long screwdriver or something I can fish up from the bottom to that arm to "pop" it open. Here's a couple pictures showing the release arm and latch so you can see where they are located. The release arm (marked B) will release the primary latch.
