How do I hook up a sub woofer

Problem with Sony Xplod XM-554ZR Car Audio Amplifier

How do I hook up a sub woofer to my Sony 52wx4 radio. I dont have a wiring diagram?

You can hook it up a couple of ways.

Depending on how many subs you have and what ohms they are running at here is the chart you need. If your going to run one sub off it the last option is the way to go. Your going to need to find out the power of your subs or else the power could be off and you could blow the sub. If the rms power is higher than 130watts per coil you will be fine. If so there are four channels on the amp and two should show a line going to each other that says bridge. Hook up the positives and the negative of the subs as shown on the amp that will get your max power. If your sub is running at 4 ohm. Let me know, if not thats how you would do it.

Also for the power and remote wires. Hook up a power wire (16 gauge would be plenty fine) from the battery to the + terminal of the amp. Then take an equal or bigger sized wire from the - side of the amp and secure it to any medal part of the body of the car. If there is paint on it get if off. (not on the outside of your car or where any water would be.) Then run a remote wire from your stereo (most the times it is blue and white) to the remote terminal of the amp. This tell the amp when to turn on and off. Your amp will not turn on with out all of these wires. Good luck to you and let me know how it works out.

4 x 65W RMS @ 2Ohm

1 x 130W RMS @ 4Ohm - Bridge

My car is a 92 ford falcon when u play bassie music u can only just here it out side the car but when u pop the bot u can rarely here it what can i do to make it louder out side the car

Crack the windows and drop the sony system and get your self a nice mono block class d amp 1000 rms should be loud enough btw bild your stereo based on rms power not max power rms is the true power you got so like 2 500 watt rms 12s on a 1000 watt rms amp or just a 1000 watt woofer it will be jsut as loud as the 2 12s

Its in the amp and sub itself, what kind are you running, facing the sub forward helps amplify the sound forward and vice verse  id seal the boot up with sound deadener or poly-fill  the less movement in the car the higher the chance the bass can travel, if its the thump you want make sure you have the lpf (low pass filter) switched on the amp, raise the gain and if you can do it on your amp bridge the wires, more info would be great on what your running. if you have the slat feature on head unit turn that up, bass frequency on head unit and amp should be between 55 to 80 up to 110 on both amp and sub.

sony Xplod 600w amp Power led is red

Problem with Sony Xplod XM-554ZR Car Audio Amplifier

My sony Xplod 600w amp just stopped working and the power light is red, How do I get it re set to green so the amp will work? I have no blown fuses on the amp or at the battery.

I had just had the same problem with my xplod554ZR, i have sofar found no solution and have even opened up the amplifier only to discover that it isnt like most amplifiers, it does not have internal fuses as well as external.

  • Your ground needs to be tight under the bolt.
  • Make sure that all of your wires are still hooked up tight and not loose.start there and see what happens.
  • Also if the amp senses that the subwoofer isnt stong enough it will shut itself of and show a red light this happened to me earlier and it kept showing redlight until i changed the sub

1985 Honda civic radio speaker sound is low

Problem with Sony Xplod XM-554ZR Car Audio Amplifier

I have a 1985 Honda Civic which I installed a Sony CDX-GT260 Car Stereo 50Wx4. I hooked up 2 Kenwood speakers sitting in oval boxes on the parcel tray above back seat in addition to the 2 in front doors. Sound is OK but I wish it was a but "fuller" with a richer base. Someone said fit an amplifier under the seat. Will this help and / or other guidance please.

First of all please check if the speakers are connected in phase. That is if all the positive and negative terminals are connected OK. Simple way to check is to turn the fader control first to the rear and then while playing some music with heavy beat ( dance music ) turn the balance to one side. Listen and see if you are getting good bass. Then turn the balance and bring it to the middle ( 0 ), when you do that if the bass is becoming flat-- one of your back speakers are out of phase and canceling bass. If thery are in phase the bass should become full and rich. Do the same by turning the fader to the front and try swinging the balance. If all is Ok , yes you will need an Amplifier to satisfy you. Make sure you buy something that can match the power of the speakers you have installed in the car.

The out of phase syndrome is a very common problem.

Water heater not working

Rheem water heater not working

If you have an electric water heater and it is not making any hot water then you have a problem. The good news is that electric water heaters are not that hard to troubleshoot and there are not a lot of things that can go wrong with them. I will go over the things that can give trouble and how to fix them.

First off if you have some hot water but not as much as you did when it was new then you probably have a bad bottom element. Only the top element is working, so you are only getting about 1/3 of a tank of hot water, replace the bottom element and you will be good again.

If you are making steam, then you have a bad thermostat. While you are making the steam out the relief valve, check to see which element is working. The easiest way to do that is to see which element has 220v on the two screws on the element. That thermostat at that element is bad. Replace it and you will stop the sauna.

If you have no hot water then check the red reset button directly above the top thermostat. You may have to push very hard on it to get it to reset. If the reset is tripped then you have a bad thermostat. Finding out which one can be tricky and timing is important to catch the bad thermostat in the act.

No hot water can also be the result of the top heating element going bad. If the top element goes bad then the top thermostat will never get enough heat to trip on the bottom thermostat. Therefore you will get no hot water. Dual element hot water heaters for residential use, do not ever run both elements at the same time. Only the top OR the bottom will be energized at a time.

This all there is to checking an electric hot water heater. If you are having problems go through this list systematically and you will find your problem and be able to fix it.

Adjust temperature for water heater

Problem with Rheem 40 GAL ELEC TALL Water Heater 6YR SC 82VH402

I need to adjust water temperature, and don't have a manual. i have a 81v40d C model , 40 gal electric.

To help people understand how to adjust the temperature on their electric hot water heater.

Electric Hot Water Heater Temperature Adjustment

If your electric hot water heater is not getting your water hot enough or your water is too hot then you can make the adjustment easily yourself. There are a few things that you may need to know to do this. I will go over where the thermostat(s) are located and also how to make the changes.

The first thing to remember is to make sure that the power is turned off to the hot water heater before you attempt to open any of the covers and make any adjustments.

The next thing is to locate the covers which are over the thermostats and the elements. There are two on most hot water heaters, one for the top and one for the bottom. One or two screws hold these covers in place. They will look like this when you look at the front of the hot water heater.

When you have the cover removed you will see that the top thermostatreset safety control and the element look like this.

The bottom thermostat and element look like this.

If you need to reset the hot water heater you push the red button on the top thermostat in hard till it clicks. To change the temperature setting on the thermostat you need to take a screw driver and turn the dial to the desired temperature either higher or lower as you prefer.

The elements can also be checked by using and ohm meter and checking for resistance across the two terminals of the element. If you get no resistance or a high resistance the element is no good. A normal reading with most meters will be somewhere in the 8-25 ohm range. This even gives a bit of buffer for different meters and the possibility of them being a bit out of calibration.

For most people a simple adjustment of the temperature settings will be sufficient to give you the results you want. Remember that you may need to adjust the thermostat for both elements to get the desired result. Also remember that you can get a longer time before you run out of hot water if the water is hotter and you mix more cold into it. The downside of that is the chances for scalding are greatly increased with hotter water. If you have small children or elderly adults, think carefully about what very hot water can do to them.

For higher efficiency you also want to keep the water temperatures as low as possible to reduce the residual heat loss of the stored hot water.
